It's probably not necessary to convince you that, when it comes to social media marketing, the Big Daddy is Facebook.
Why's that? It's because that's where people are.
As 2016 ended, Facebook's number of active users was racing towards an incredible 2 billion, making it a no-brainer in terms of easily and affordably promoting your business.
Need a few tips to get you started? If so, it probably won't take you long to figure out not only that your current and potential customers enjoy engaging with brands and businesses on Facebook - it's also fun for you too!
1. Likes for charity
Every Facebook user loves to get likes. But that's especially true for a business because a 'like' is basically a referral and a marker of how far your content reaches.
A great way to dramatically boost your likes and reach new audiences is to appeal to people's sensibilities - and asking for likes in exchange for a donation to a worthy charity is a really good cause, too. Set a limit so it doesn't cost you a fortune and then promise to donate $1 for every 'like' to a charity.
2. Run a competition
Running a contest is a great way to engage with your existing audience and draw in newcomers who want to get in on the fun. If you sell a product, commit to giving something away free to a lucky winner and make 'entering' the contest as fun as possible. For instance, ask your customers to post a photo of their pet, and the cutest is the winner, or run a caption contest to a bizarre image!
3. Dip a toe into the advertising world
For most small businesses, running a Facebook ad is a very easy and affordable first foray into online advertising. It's really easy to set up, you can control the costs, and it can teach you a lot about reach, engagements and ultimately what works and what doesn't thanks to some great in-built analytical tools.
4. Add posts that engage
Social media is, of course, all about engagement, and the way to converse with your customers on Facebook is via comments. Perhaps a follower has left a comment on a post? Instead of ignoring it, spark up a conversation by responding to it and thanking them for their message - keep it going as long as possible.
To encourage comments, craft some posts that are irresistible when they pop up in people's newsfeeds. For instance, if you have a couple of products available, ask which one they like the best. Or, try a 'fill in the blank' post, with a question like: "The best thing about Sunday morning is ..." Relate the post to your business and prepare to be amazed at how receptive your audience is to a bit of light relief.
